Letter: Tales of the Weston explorer

Hiking in Weston has become one of my favorite afternoon activities. Though I have now been on the trails many times, the first time was the one that stood out to me the most. It was Columbus day a few weeks ago. Hand in hand with mama, we crossed Conant Road to begin our hiking loop back to our house.

I heard birds and crickets chirping, and the scent of nature bathed my nose. We turned onto Pinecroft Road. At the end of the road, we saw the trail. It was characterized by a slight dip in a stone wall. We stepped in. It was like being on a different planet. Though there were few trees, the ones that existed were tall and broad such that there was still a fully-enclosed canopy. We crossed a cute little bridge over a stream. Then, all of a sudden, the trees started thinning and a road appeared on the other side. Ah! It was someone’s driveway, and Webster Road was just up ahead. Excited, I hopped onward.

After walking a short distance, Church Street came into view. We hurriedly looked for the next trail. But there were no marks. Nonetheless, I decided to explore. Before long, I found a trail mark! Soon, an inviting boardwalk, my favorite, appeared to my right. More interestingly, past the boardwalk there is a mini arch bridge and a mini water dam. I hurried to examine the dam, and crossed the bridge many times. We made our way to the bike path and walked all the way to the Conant Road bridge. Exhausted, I slumped on mama’s shoulder as we hobbled down the sidewalk.

I loved the walk so much, right after I got home, I begged mama to go again. Since then, every weekend we explored more and more of Weston’s beautiful trails.
