Letter: Support landscaping noise bylaw at Town Meeting
Support landscaping noise bylaw at Town Meeting
A homeowner’s right to maintain property should not mean neighbors must endure industrial-scale commercial noise inside their own homes. This is the heart of Weston’s proposed Landscaping Noise Bylaw.
Every spring and fall, my neighborhood is overwhelmed hours on end by the noise of a 900-pound, 35-horsepower stand-on blower. Generating the roar of more than 10 standard blowers combined, its low-frequency vibrations disrupt life in our house for my family and work-from-home calls. Just like any industry, landscaping businesses must balance operations against a resident’s property rights. We regulate external business disruptions everywhere else; yard care should not be exempt– especially when the enterprises have grown way beyond a single leaf blower to the industrial multi-blower teams with vacuum trucks
There are many outstanding landscape services in Weston, and we want them to be able to continue serving Weston. The Landscaping Noise Bylaw gives landscaping companies a multi-year window to phase out old equipment and recoup their investments. By 2030, the new rules will fully protect property owners and deliver lasting relief from the noise.
Please vote in favor of the Landscaping Noise Bylaw.
