Candidate Statement: Anupam Sachdev

I am running for the Select Board to help Weston navigate a period of significant change—while protecting what makes our town exceptional.

Weston is at a crossroads. We face a set of interconnected challenges: changing demographics, with nearly 62% of households without children; a highly residential tax base of approximately 96%; and school spending that accounts for 60–70% of our budget. At the same time, we must respond to increasing state-driven housing pressures, including the MBTA Communities Law (Section 3A) and 40B requirements.

We also face substantial capital needs in the years ahead—$400–500 million for schools, approximately $40 million for water infrastructure, and around $50 million for a new fire station.

These are not small decisions, and they require thoughtful, disciplined planning.

I am running to bring balanced, community-focused decision-making to these challenges. My priorities are clear: define a proactive housing strategy on Weston’s terms, maintain the excellence of our schools, and ensure responsible planning for major investments and aging infrastructure. We must balance our operating budget with long-term commitments while protecting taxpayers.

With more than 30 years of experience building and running a software company, I bring a practical, business-minded approach to budgeting, prioritization, and governance. I am committed to transparency, open communication, and ensuring that a broad range of community voices are heard.

Weston does not need unchecked expansion—it needs careful, measured growth that preserves our character and quality of life.

My commitment is simple: thoughtful planning, financial discipline, and protecting Weston for the next generation.

I respectfully ask for your support on Saturday, May 2.
