Candidate Statement: Adam Newman

When we choose a place to live, we’re choosing a place for our children to grow, learn, and be supported. For many of us, that’s why we chose Weston.

Our schools are exceptional – strong academic outcomes, small class sizes, and outstanding extracurricular programs. At the same time, questions remain about how we prepare students for what comes next. Whether navigating an AI-driven future, gaining real-world experience, or understanding the range of paths after high school, our district must help students and families move forward with confidence and clarity.

Weston is at an important inflection point. The decisions ahead include ensuring stable district leadership, taking a thoughtful approach to technology in learning and citizenship, and advancing a secondary campus project that will shape our town for decades. Meeting this moment will require sound judgment – grounded in data, focused on student outcomes, and mindful of long- term impact – along with clear priorities and a shared commitment to the community.

Over the past three years on the School Committee, including this year as chair, I’ve focused on building a collaborative culture and turning priorities into measurable results. These include implementing a new K–5 literacy program, advancing a redesigned middle and high school schedule launching next fall, and supporting collective bargaining agreements that balance respect for our educators and staff with long-term financial responsibility.

As a parent, I understand how much these decisions matter. In Weston, residents who serve on town boards often bring deep professional expertise. Drawing on more than 30 years in education as a teacher and strategy consultant, I bring that experience to the School Committee, helping to navigate complex decisions and ensure strong plans translate into real progress for students.

I’ve shared detailed perspectives on these topics on my website. I would be honored to earn your vote again.
