Letter: Newman says thank you for support
Thank you to those who supported the Town and School Committee budget at this week’s Town Meeting. Investments in K-12 education appreciate over time. Our community’s willingness to consistently support requests when well presented, including this year’s assistance for lighting to support our student-athletes, is a testament to the spirit of stewardship that enriches Weston. It honors the students who have graduated, those who are among us, and those who will one day walk the halls of our schools.
Additionally, I want to thank the community for the privilege of serving as a representative for you on School Committee these past three years. As a lifelong educator, it has been a wonderful experience. I was reminded nearly every day of the hard work our administrators, educators, and staff do on behalf of our children. And, I learned much from the colleagues with whom I have had the pleasure of serving; the time and energy they contribute is remarkable. For those continuing – Daina, Jane, Ken and Tiao – I wish you the best with all that’s in front of us. And to Steve, best of luck as you join a great team.
The opportunities and challenges facing public education districts – including Weston’s – are significant and hard. There are no simple solutions. As I step off, I encourage us to work on them together in a spirit of candor, collaboration, respect, and trust. We may not always agree, but I’m pretty sure we all want what’s best for the next generation, regardless of who they are.
