Letter: Support Steve Dietz for School Committee

I am writing in support of Steve Dietz who is running for Weston School Committee. Over the years, my husband and I have had many dinner conversations with Steve and his wife about our lives, our children and our community; our shared interests as friends and neighbors. We have applauded our experiences with incredible educators, and griped about challenges such as the distraction of personal devices inside school buildings, or confusing curriculum choices. On more than one occasion, one of us would say “but you don’t see any of us running for the School Committee!” So I was thrilled and grateful when Steve shared the news that he was planning to serve.

Steve’s investment of time and energy is natural: his four children span the spectrum of district ages, and he will be a district parent for a decade to come. Naturally curious and open to a range of perspectives, Steve will seek to understand and establish trust with our entire community, offering a blend of true representation with his own basic common sense.

Steve understands that we have a treasure to protect in Weston schools: academic excellence, parental involvement, and stellar educators. He also understands that there are existing weaknesses that must be addressed, and technological advancements coming that will challenge and inspire us all. Here, Steve’s real world professional experience in tech and finance will be uniquely valuable. I hope your readers will join me in voting for Steve Dietz for School Committee on May 2.
