Dozens of residents gathered Thursday morning to plant 3,000 flags in commemoration of the lives lost in the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

At 8:46 a.m. – the time when the first plane hit the World Trade Center in New York City on Sept. 11, 2001 – the First Parish Church’s bells rang out, prompting residents, town officials and first responders to begin planting flags representing the United States, international countries and police and fire personnel.

The Weston Fire Department also held a remembrance outside its headquarters, honoring first responders who gave their lives that day.
