Letter: Invest in Weston: Re-elect Adam Newman

The best investment that we can make in the Weston Public Schools is to re-elect School Committee Chair Adam Newman. As a former School Committee member, I am keenly familiar with the demands of the work, the steep learning curve, and the breadth of skills required to make effective decisions—all while centering the needs of students and families. This position requires a deep dive into educational policy and practice, knowledge of state and nationwide trends, and measuring school performance as evidenced by data, testing, and case studies. This role is best served by those who work for the greater good and through strong, patient and respectful relationships.

None of this is new to Adam, who has proven to be a committed leader, listener, and learner in his first term. His 30+ year professional career exemplifies a strong commitment to improving education for all children; this requires understanding the unique needs of students of various learning profiles, and the needs of teachers and families to optimize learning. As a former teacher and coach, Adam knows first-hand how to help students succeed and grow, and has demonstrated how to communicate with integrity and respect. As an advisor and business leader, Adam has the knowledge and vision to keep a high performing district such as Weston striving for continual improvement, while staying aware of industry trends.

The next few years will bring many decisions before our entire community. To me, what’s more important than whether or not we have kids in the district, are new parents or retired, or are transplants or natives—is that it’s imperative that we see the Weston forest for the trees. It is our collective responsibility to invest in the educational futures of our town’s children.

Vote for Adam Newman on May 2. Vote for Weston’s future.
