Vote Steve Dietz for School Committee

I grew up in Weston. I walked the same hallways my kids walk today, and I’ll be honest — there’s something surreal about watching your own children move through a school system you remember so well. Nostalgia aside, I know better than most that what made Weston’s schools great a generation ago won’t keep them great for the next one.

That’s why this School Committee election has caught my attention. My three kids will spend the next decade in this school system, and the decisions made in the next few years – on technology, facilities, leadership, and how we prepare students for a world changing faster than any of us expected – will shape their education directly.

I didn’t know Steve Dietz before this campaign. But after hearing him speak and spending time understanding his approach, I was genuinely won over. What struck me most was his instinct to listen first — he approaches community concerns with real attentiveness, not a predetermined agenda. Equally important, he brings the kind of discerning judgment we’ll need to navigate the difficult trade-offs ahead, and a clear-eyed appreciation for what good governance actually looks like in practice.

There are many critical decisions that will affect my children in the years ahead, and Steve Dietz is the person I want making those decisions. He has four children spread across every school in the district, so like me, he isn’t theorizing about what’s best — he’s living it. He understands that excellence isn’t self-sustaining. It takes proactive strategy, honest governance, and the discipline to keep students at the center of every decision, including the hard ones around facilities spending and technology adoption. I want decision-makers who have genuine skin in the game, who will feel the consequences of what they decide. Steve Dietz will.
