Letter: Steve Dietz committed to Weston students

The single largest line item in our town budget every year is our school system – approximately 50% of every dollar we spend as a town annually, goes to our schools. As such, the body overseeing that budget, our School Committee, should be at the forefront of every taxpayer’s mind as we head to Town Hall on May 2 for town elections. With one of five seats on the Committee open for election this May, I am proud to be supporting Steve Dietz’s candidacy.

Our School Committee is responsible for developing the vision, values and initiatives for the department followed by executing plans to fulfill those goals. This lifecycle often spans many years; as of September, Steve and his wife, Beth, will have a child in every school level in our system with his youngest not due to graduate until 2039. Isn’t that the sort of skin-in-the-game and long-term vision we want?

Steve is very clear on the single, overarching principle that will guide every decision and vote he makes while on the committee: is this what’s best for our kids? And how will Steve know what is best for Weston students? He is committed to continuously seeking out input and feedback from fellow Weston parents. Pretty simple.

Weston Schools are exceptional and I would imagine were a major factor in all of us deciding to move here to raise our families. However, our schools are not without challenges now and in the not-too-distant future. With Steve on our School Committee I think all of our kids, in every level of our schools, will be in good hands. Please join me on May 2 and vote for Steve Dietz for School Committee.
