Candidate for School Committee: Steve Dietz

My wife and I moved to Weston for the same reasons many of you are here: the community, the character of the town, and above all, the quality of the schools. We have four kids enrolled across every level, from pre-K to eighth grade. We are invested in the future of this town, educationally and fiscally, for decades to come.

I believe the people making decisions about our schools should be living with the consequences of those decisions every day: at the breakfast table, in the carpool, at back-to-school night. Not reviewing them in a binder.

In preparing for this role, I met with parents, teachers, specialists, a former superintendent, former school committee members, PTO leaders, and students. I have listened, and I have learned. What I keep hearing is that people love these schools but do not feel heard by some of the people running them.

Weston’s schools are excellent. The question is whether we keep them that way or simply assume it. Excellence is not a reputation you inherit. It is a standard you earn, every year, with every dollar and every decision. That means classrooms where technology serves learning instead of replacing it. Teachers who feel trusted and supported enough to stay and build careers here. High standards, and real support, for every student. And a School Committee who treats your tax dollars with care, transparency, and a clear expectation of return.

Our School Committee can only do its best work if it embraces openness, collegiality, and a genuine enthusiasm for engaging the people it serves. I am not running to represent any faction or point of view. I am running to represent this town.

The challenges ahead will require honest conversations and the willingness to have them face-to-face and constructively. I will listen to every resident of Weston, whether you have kids in the schools or not. Your vote matters to me. Your trust matters to me. The future of Weston matters to all of us.
