Weston girls soccer alumni played their second memorial game, honoring former teammates Ash Baird and Karenna Groff.
Weston Girls Varsity soccer alumni played their second memorial game, May 16, in remembrance of former teammates Ash Baird and Karenna Groff. Baird died several years ago after battling cancer and Groff died last year in a plane crash with her entire family, except her sister Anika.
Baird’s sister Sommer and Groff’s sister Anika, were both in attendance, and played in the alumni game. Coach John Power and former assistant coach Rachel Duranwood spoke during a memorial circle before the game, and shared memories of the two young women.
Power announced that plaques in memory of Baird and Groff will be installed at the snack shack at Proctor Field this summer, with smaller plaques to be displayed in a case at Weston High School.
