Letter to the editor: Alternative bike path proposal
Alternative bike path proposal
I am a strong supporter of more sidewalks and bike paths. That being said, the Route 30 proposal can have a much more acceptable plan that I think we can all agree with.
I continue to propose that this path be built on top of the MWRA aqueduct. This aqueduct goes all the way from the Wayland border to Park Road in Weston. It is already partially paved and it is wide enough for a 10-foot path. It is quiet and it is bucolic and would be a great addition to our town. It can be built with proper fencing where needed for security of our water supply. It is already used for recreation today. One area of challenge is at Winter Street where it goes underground, and would require a bridge or ramp like structure to get back to the grade level on either side of Wellesley Street.
I recommend everyone to do as I did and contact our State representatives, (Rep Alice Peisch and Senator Michael Barrett), our Select Board and the Traffic and Sidewalk committee and ask them to advocate for the path to be built over the Aqueduct in Weston. Doing so would not disturb the residents on Route 30 and the bikers and walker would not have to breath car fumes, but wonderful fresh air along the aqueduct.
