Girl Scouts celebrate in bridging ceremony

On the evening of Sunday, Sept. 14, Weston’s Girl Scouts held two special ceremonies before a packed crowd at the Scout House, 86 School St.

Friends and family gathered to see 13 second grade Daisy Girl Scouts bridge to become Brownies and 11 sixth grade Junior Girl Scouts bridge to become Cadettes. The girls bridged to the next level of scouts by crossing a bridge that had been constructed by Boy Scouts.

The newly-minted Cadettes were recognized for earning their Bronze Awards for completing renovations of the two Scout House bathrooms. The girls cleaned and painted the bathrooms and made new curtains for both the bathrooms and the main meeting room of the Scout House. Previously, they had presented their goals and a well-thought-out plan to the board of trustees of Weston Scouts, Inc. After questions and answers, they received full board approval and appreciation.

The evening began with a traditional flag ceremony, which included an American flag bearer with two color guards, a Weston Council flag bearer, a Daisy and a Brownie flag bearer.

Following the flag ceremony, Weston Service Unit Coordinator Beverly Dillaway made opening remarks and presented leaders Del Leistritz-Edwards, Thuy Lam Saunders, Heather Dorr and Nicole Charos with gifts to acknowledge their dedication to their troops. Additionally, Del Leistritz-Edwards, leader of the older troop, received special recognition as a volunteer leader.

The evening concluded with a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the refurbished bathrooms, snacks for all attendees and the closing ceremony, which included the singing of “Make New Friends,” followed by the traditional friendship circle that involved everyone in attendance.
