Wayland man cited for Cybertruck vandalism

On Feb. 27, Weston police summoned Roger Leonard Kay of Wayland, 72, charging him with malicious destruction of property over $1,200, after he allegedly keyed a Cybertruck parked in the Central Street parking lot.

According to Officer Phong Vuong, upon responding to a report of a vandalized vehicle, he spoke with the owner of the green 2025 Cybertruck who admitted that he had parked over the marked white lines in the lot. While at work, as he was monitoring his Tesla vehicle camera, the owner noticed a man park next to his vehicle and key it. He confronted the person responsible, later identified as Kay, who admitted his actions and apologized.

Upon arrival, Vuong observed a silver gouge marked horizontally on the rear passenger door of the vehicle, valued at approximately $60,000.

Vuong spoke with Kay, who stated it was an “in-the-moment” decision, and said he was frustrated about the tightness of his parking spot. He offered to pay for damages, estimated at about $5,200. Kay was advised he would be summonsed to court for malicious destruction of property over $1,200.
